Although all concerned are respectful to Pope Francis, what is happening appears involve the sort of lawlessness which characterises this pontificate. I suppose Marwan Sehnaoui has to follow a 'king's evil advisors' line, but it seems otherwise.

“I remain LOYAL to HIs Holiness Pope Francis and to his Special Delegate His Eminence Cardinal Silvano Tomasi.”

There is a great confusion here regarding loyalty, disagreement and obedience. Loyalty does not require one to agree with the superior. In fact loyalty can sometimes demand the airing of disagreement and concerns. If I am loyal to a friend who is about to cheat on his wife, I don't tell him it's OK to do whatever he wants. Sir Thomas More was loyal to King Henry VIII all the way up to his execution.

Obedience to authority is a related but different thing. Like loyalty it does not require passive agreement unless the order is to be quiet and do whatever you're told. However, by default that is not the case according canon law. All Catholics have the right to make their grievances known. Obedience is also bounded by conscience. Not that those under obedience can simply ignore their superior, but what they can do is resign. This is the real threat at this point. Those who's conscience's are being violated by this authoritarian "reform" won't disobey the Holy Father and continue to do what they want (like the German bishops are), they'll resign en mass which will lead to the de facto breakup of the order along with its loss of sovereignty.

What's crazy to me about all this is it appears the long term threat to the Order (along with the issue of sovereignty) is the fact that there are only 40 or so professed knights. Increasing vocations doesn't even seem to be an agenda topic. The authoritarian nature of what's taking place will only further reduce future vocations.

Boy, someone or a group of the Knights must have angered our Holy Father. While he is a petty man his actions in this go beyond what was necessary.

I’m sure some traddies made him mad and he retaliated with TC. Bishops removed with no explanation will become his next cruelty. Refusing to engage with the Dubia Cardinals and Cardinal Zen just publicly shows His Holiness to be quite the bully. May God be more merciful to him than he has been to others.
